In order to promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture and make international students understand the connotation of Chinese traditional festivals better, on June 13, 2021, School of International Education held an activity with the theme of Fragrance of Reed Leaves, Taste Dragon Boat Festival for international students to experience Chinese culture.
The Dragon Boat Festival activity began at 9 a.m. Students work together to make zongzi. Make the leaves into a funnel shape, put glutinous rice into it, add beef or dates, and then wrap the rice with the leaves. “ Be sure to tie them tightly, otherwise the rice will leak... The canteen staff also showed up to teach the students how to make zongzi. The students came up with special skills, pulling leaves, making a funnel, filling glutinous rice, sealing, tying bundles, skillful hand flipping. Square, triangle, polygon...... A unique zongzi was born. Bolong, from Uzbekistan, said, “This is my first time to make zongzi. It's not easy to make nice shapes, but it's very interesting!
It took a long time to cook zongzi. During this period, the Chinese students introduced to international students that the colorful ropes representing the five elements which have the meaning of ward off evil spirits, praying for blessings and other beautiful morals. They patiently taught international students to make colored ropes. International students listened carefully and knit attentively to feel the charm of traditional Chinese festivals.
This activity not only enriched the spiritual and cultural life of international students, made them feel the atmosphere of traditional Chinese festivals, but also enhanced the communication and interaction between Chinese and international students.
